The Project: Coldstone House

The Brief

In the beautiful setting of Oxfordshire, is a beautiful house with a stunning swimming pool. The house itself is a family residence, with some features dating back to the 16^th century, and later additions give a range of character and charm combined with modern convenience. 

The pool room has been newly built; replacing a rather old cow barn and is connected to the main house via the conservatory. The beautifully designed space has magnificent height, the roof space features spectacular oak frames and is generally used as a swimming pool room, but with potential to use it for events and parties, if only the pool could temporarily disappear! 

The End Result

The space surrounding the 12 x 4 metre family swimming pool features a beautiful stone floor, and one wall has glass doors opening onto the garden, an ideal venue for a party.

Installing Pool-dek from Stage Systems gives the room a temporary floor above the surface of the water, safely supported by a framework built within the pool.  The wooden floor has an oak finish and a surround to make it level with the original floor.

The Pool-dek infill system was originally sourced for a 21^st birthday party and has since been used for a second 21^st party and various other events.  Since the room leads onto the lawn, a marquee extended space further, utilising the pool room as a dining space and outside for drinks. The dining area, on one occasion, catered for 110 guests, illustrating the size of room when the floor is in place.

What They Said

When the party is over, the Pool-dek floor can then be removed and stored compactly away, returning the pool room back to its swimming pool status. Pool-dek offers the perfect way to make the room multi-functional and utilise the beautiful space for family and friends.
