Q-build's meeting room

True friendship

Think of a lifestyle that is simple, contemporary and radical. The Quaker way of life is just this, believing that peace, social justice and the environment are fundamental; it is a religious society of friends.

Brighton Friends' Meeting House was built in 1805 by Quakers as a place to worship and celebrate Quaker beliefs. It has, since then been used for this same purpose and still is today.  Centrally located in the vibrant city centre, the building has expanded its role, bringing various community groups, events and shows into the family. How? By fitting a stage.

The main meeting room now has a stage that can be reconfigured in various formats to meet individual needs, from one man shows to dramatic shows and performances. The Meeting House was in fact one of the venues of the Brighton Festival. The main festival is a three week event with fringe events taking place around the city in a variety of venues including the city's Theatre Royal, churches, the library and a local pizza restaurant.  For this, the 42nd Festival, The Meeting House provided an alternative venue with a flexible performance space that can seat up to 200 people.

The hall where the stage is situated is part of the original building, has balcony seating and is light, bright and airy.  The stage is Q-Build, a design that meets the requirements of the venue perfectly as it can be built in any part of the room - the standard site at the end of the room for maximum capacity, centrally for dramatic presentation or in the corner or at the side for more intimate performance. Q-Build can be configured into large or small formats, single or multi-level height and when not being used can be stored away.  The stage has been used for a growing number of concerts, theatre performances and meetings and has even been used as raised seating for a recent children's event.

The venue is available for use in the community, as are the facilities, including the stage. Due to the flexibility of the design, each performer can decide on the layout of the stage and Q-Build can accommodate.
