The Royal Military School of Music is based at Kneller Hall hosting musical training as well as spectacular performances.
Central to the musical events is the bandstand. There has been a bandstand at the site since the 1890’s and the current amphitheatre construction is a replica of the 1940’s design. Being used for a variety of musical events the stand needed improvements to the podium and overall design to ensure the performances were presented to their best.
Removing the podium influenced the update of the entire bandstand creating a new platform across the existing stand to produce a raised floor performance area.
In its new format the bandstand is mainly used for the summer events, so a demountable platform is ideal. The structure is formed from bespoke design of Multi-dek to fit perfectly into the semi-circular shape of the band stand. The tailored contemporary design sits
comfortably alongside original features, combined with a robust structure that now hosts musical performances. The audience sits, picnics and listens to the amazing outdoor music of the individually themed six summer concerts, which are concluded with a firework finale.
The events are further enhanced with this new and unique performance platform, providing a modern base for our bands to perform on, in a traditional setting.
