In light of the Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, Stage Systems have reviewed the materials we use and the recommended cleaning and maintenance of Q-build and Q-plus portable staging.
Deck panels are made from BB quality 18mm birch plywood coated in a UV dried acrylic lacquer which is stain resistant and gives a hard-wearing slip resistant finish.
We have incorporated improvements to the lacquer finish on our decks to add a new layer called Bio+Coat Antibacterial Lacquer. The product contains an anti-bacterial agent which allows it to be used as a hygienic coating. This coating stops bacteria surviving on its surface. Bio+Coat is a fast curing lacquer which offers a high build and excellent scratch resistance.
Bio+Coat will prevent the spread of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli 0157 (E.coli), Salmonella enteritidis, Bacillus cereus (food poisoning) and other bacteria with a kill rate of 99% within 24 hours. Bio+Coat also reduces the risk of deterioration, discolouration and odours caused by micro-organisms. All products meet the requirements of FIRA Standard 6250: 2005 for horizontal surfaces.
Cleaning Recommendations
We recommend that decks are cleaned with a damp cloth and weak soapy water. Do not use an abrasive or solvent cleaner/wipes. The use of any cleaning agents containing benzalkonium chlorides will have a detrimental effect on the decks or any other organic coating hence the use of a neutral detergent.
Do not soak.
Decks should be stored dry and flat in a non-humid environment. Plywood can warp if stored next to heat or in direct sunlight.
Care of the Frames
The frames are made from steel tube. The standard finish is dabble grey with a hard wearing powder coating. If they have been badly mishandled, it is possible that frames might “lozenge” and so will not fit with other frames or decks. To remedy this, measure across the diagonal and use a little pressure across the longer diagonal until this returns the frame to square.
The decks should be stacked on the trolley as shown. Decks should always be stored horizontally. Do not thread the
deck over the legs of the trolley as this can damage the holes.
Please note: Although the trolley may be delivered with the decks threaded over the legs this is purely for stability during transportation. The decks should be removed very carefully, and the trolley should be re-stacked correctly after the
first use.
Storage
Equipment can be used outdoors but should not be left outside. However, they should always be stored in a well-ventilated dry environment. Care should be taken to ensure that the equipment is dried after use and it should never be stored in a wet or damp condition.
Safety
Ensure that the castors are kept tightly bolted into the trolley frame. Check tightness whenever trolley is empty. This is especially important if equipment is regularly wheeled over uneven surfaces. Loose castors can cause accidents.
Standard storage trolleys should be used if purchased. Position the decks to the bottom of the spiral to keep the centre of gravity of the stack lower (see below).
You will find that stacking frames with the legs down will minimise stack heights.
Note: The maximum storage capacity per trolley depends upon a number of factors including frame size, number of bridge decks and combination of decks to frames.
Decks should always be stored horizontally.
